If you experience faxing problems, such as failed faxes, failure to receive faxes, etc., here's what you can try first:
- If someone reports being unable to send a fax to you, have them try again. Make sure the sender is using the correct faxing number. There are many reasons why a fax might fail, such as static on the phone line, trying to send a color fax to a black and white fax machine, etc. Usually the fax can be received after being resent. If the fax still fails after multiple attempts, continue with the next step.
- Check to make sure the Cisco SPA112 phone adapter is plugged in to power and to the network. The LED lights on the side of the adapter should be lit up green.

- Try sending a test fax to 1-888-473-2963 (HP Test Faxing Service). This will send a test fax out and then you should receive a confirmation fax back to you within 5-10 minutes.
You can also try adjusting the following settings on your fax machine. You can look at the user manual for your printer/fax machine in order to do this, or search online for instructions. Typically these settings can be found in the Fax or the Advanced Fax options, which can be enabled either from the screen on the printer/fax machine or from the web portal for the machine.
- Set the Fax Speed to 14,400.
- Make sure ECM (Error Correction Module) is enabled.

If this does not fix the issue, submit a request to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following information for the original problem:
- Date and time of fax.
- Was this a fax you were sending or receiving?
- Telephone number of fax machine dialed or fax was received from.
- Detailed explanation of issue experienced such as specific errors you or the remote party are receiving.
- Make and model of the printer/fax machine.
